Planning Directives

A planning directive may be issued by the Minister for Planning on:

  • issues relating to use, development, protection or conservation of land in all or some municipal areas,
  • procedural matters arising from the operation of the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 (LUPA Act) or a State Policy,
  • the application of a State Policy, or
  • any other matters considered appropriate by the Minister.

A draft planning directive to have interim effect while it is being formally assessed by the Commission.

An Interim Planning Directive (IPD) may be issued by the Minister for Planning under the former provisions of the LUPA Act. The Minister may only make an IPD after considering a recommendation from the Commission regarding a related draft planning directive. An IPD may remain in place for up to 12 months, or until the related planning directive is issued.
