Amendments to the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 and the Housing Land Supply Act 2018

Following the announcement of the State Government election on Friday, 26 March 2021, the State Government has now entered a ‘caretaker period’. The caretaker period continues until the outcomes of the election are clear. During the caretaker period the ordinary business of government continues however, there are limits on decisions or actions that may bind an incoming government. The normal sitting of Parliament is also discontinued during this period.

As a result, the Land Use Planning and Approvals Amendment (Tasmanian Planning Scheme Modification) Bill 2021 and the Housing Land Supply Amendment Bill 2021, which were tabled in Parliament on 23 March and 25 March 2021, have now lapsed. The Bills proposed amendments to the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 and the Housing Land Supply Act 2018 which were due to be debated in both Houses of Parliament in the coming months.

Reintroduction of the Bills into Parliament will be considered by the incoming government following the end of the caretaker period.
